Managing sensitivity settings

We’ve come a long way in the last 20 years, particularly with respect to image quality and the ability to take pictures and shoot movies in widely differing situations. One of the most significant advances has been in the low light performance of image sensors, which is now superior to the best we could expect from film.

There isn’t a camera today that can’t boast a maximum sensitivity of ISO 6400 and most can reach much higher. So many photographers are asking: what’s the maximum ISO value I should use? However, that may not be the best way to think about ISO.
