Seventy five years ago, in July 1948, the National Health Service was launched, offering free healthcare to all for the first time. It changed the course of all of our lives forever.
Before it existed, many died young because they couldn’t afford medical treatment and millions of lives have been saved by the NHS since it began.
Out of 195 countries globally, just 32 offer a national health service and in places such as America the cost of survival comes at a high price. Without insurance, patients can pay as much as $2,500 for treatment for a broken bone.
In the aftermath of COVID-19 and after years of funding battles, times have never been tougher.
