SHORE GARFISH

Throughout July, garfish are caught from breakwaters, piers, harbour walls, rock ledges and off the open beaches. Though present on the east coast, they are predominately a south and west coast species found throughout the English Channel and up the west coast as far as Oban in Scotland. They are also found throughout Ireland, but again the south and lower to mid-west coast are the prime spots. Generally, they average around 12oz but with fish to 2lb often caught.
