What About the First ‘D’ Mintmark?

Denver was not the big, bustling city it is today back when the Denver branch Mint started putting its mintmark on the nation’s coins. For several years, outputs could be described as adequate, but not enormous. Today though that “D” can be seen in plenty of everyday transactions that require some small change. Lost in all this is a much older “D” mintmark, one that almost no one collects. We’re talking now about the short-lived branch Mint in Dahlonega, Ga.
