When will the sea breeze fill in?

If you can see a line of puffy cumulus clouds along the shore it often indicates a sea breeze has formed. These are mainly encountered in spring and summer, where the land is much warmer from the sea. When the gradient wind is offshore you’ll have to watch out for the zone of total calm where the sea breeze begins as this will really slow down any progress. Throughout the day this calm zone will shift out to sea, but crossing it may be a risk worth taking for the stronger winds nearer the shore.
