TO FINISH my mini-series about birds that have stuck in my mind over the years, I return to those Gloster canaries that have stood out over the years. I have an obvious connection with the Gloster man Barry Alexander. I knew him since he was a child and Tony, I and Ian Allison acquired his stud when he gave the birds up. So I'll start with one of Barry's memorable birds. He had built up a simply wonderful stud. Like ourselves, he wanted feather quality as well as type, so he had some super yellow-feathered Glosters running through the stud.
He wasn't afraid to experiment. A couple of years before we acquired the birds, he had made an experimental double yellowand he virtually had a clean sweep of the TPD classes.
