CANARIES
IT WAS an extremely sad day when I got the call to say Paddy Dunne of Guildford had passed away.
Paddy was a lynchpin of the local birdkeeping scene. He was a man in his nineties, but his enthusiasm for keeping, breeding and showing canaries was unrivalled and seemed to grow each time I met him. He was always keen to share a story or a useful tip about the birds and in recent years I had the. He was a great man to refer to when you wanted an original take on a canary-related topic – and one, moreover, who knew that mop heads, margarine tubs and breakfast cereal boxes could all be used in the pursuit of breeding prize-winning canaries!
