Camshaft sensor

Q I have a 2007 BMW 320i convertible (N43 engine). Recently the engine started to splutter and went into limp-mode. I took it to get a diagnostic check and was told it was the camshaft sensor which I then changed. But a few days later the engine management light came on again. I have a small diagnostic machine of my own and it says it was the camshaft sensor bank 1.

Can you maybe explain what the problem is?

A There are a wide number of codes which will include the description camshaft sensor, and these will include camshaft sensor circuit, camshaft sensor correlation, camshaft position. As the problem was originally detected as the camshaft sensor at fault, I would suspect that the problem may be the circuit and could be due to a poor plug connection on either the sensor or the engine control module. Or may possibly be a break in the loom between the sensor and the control module.

The first check would be to look at both the camshaft
