Mk1 TOYOTA MR2 (1984-1989)

Toyota’s first ‘Mid-Ship Runabout 2-seater’ arrived in 1984. It’s angular styling and pop-up headlights, a design penned by Seiichi Yamauchi, were pure 1980s, but there was full commitment in there too; it’s easy to forget that Lotus, and racer Dan Gurney, were involved in the car’s development. The 1.6-litre 4A-GE 16-valve engine delivered high-revving performance, while great handling allied to typical Japanese reliability ensured the car was a real hit.
