Two more HST power cars for Colne Valley

THE 125 Heritage fleet at Castle Hedingham has been expanded with the purchase of a pair of power cars by member and volunteer Matt Golding.

First to arrive from Ely was No. 43023 on May 2, and this was followed by No. 43165 on May 4. Both power cars had been in store for some time – No. 43023 last saw use in December 2019 (when it was loaned to Hull Trains) and was placed in store in February 2020, while No. 43165 has been out of service for longer, having arrived at Ely in April 2019.

While No. 43023 is the seventh of the first batch of power cars delivered to the Western Region (for sets 253001-027) to be saved, No. 43165 is the first from the original Cross Country allocation. Initially allocated to set 253042, but confusingly outshopped by Crewe Works carrying
