THE UNLIKELY PILGRIMAGE OF HAROLD FRY
directed by Hettie Macdonald
We’ve had Martin Sheen walking the Camino, Robert Redford on the Appalachian Trail and Timothy Spall getting buses from onethe screenplay, which just might be part of the problem with the film, a sometimes jarring mix of heartwarming whimsy, grieving parent drama and religious allegory. As Broadbent’s Harold trudges from one end of England to the other on his journey of atonement, he attracts many strangers confessing their sort-of sins to the non-judgmental wayfarer.
