PORTA AND SARANTAPOROS
The Greek People’s Liberation Army (ELAS) achieved two successes in June 1943 when they defeated Italian and German forces in separate battles. During 8-9 June, around 250 ELAS partisans fought thousands of Italian soldiers at the Battle of Porta. Although the Greeks were forced to withdraw, they inflicted casualties on regular Italian Army forces for the first time in a full-on attack
