The waterways at the heart of the city date back to when Bristol was a trade hub. The docks and floating harbour that remain from those days give the city centre its unique character. Start your day at the SS , a reconstructed steamship that was the largest passenger ship in the world in the mid-19th century, ferrying passengers from Britain to Australia. The ship now sits in a dry dock in Bristol Harbour, and visitors can take photos on the deck, experience the clamour of the engine room, smell freshly baked bread in the kitchens and learn all about the ship’s designer, Isambard Kingdom Brunel, in the museum.
