When Dudley North, the 3rd Lord North, stopped to drink from a natural spring that he passed in Kent on his way home to London in 1606, little did he know that hundreds of years later visitors would flock to drink from the very same spring, and to admire the attractive town that sprung up because of his accidental discovery.
Tired and thirsty from his journey, Lord North drank from the spring and noticed a ‘rusty’ taste to the water. Feeling immediately rejuvenated, he had some of the water bottled to take back to London
