SPOTTING SPIDERS

Throughout the year, our homes can be shared with several different species of spiders. There are some eight-legged houseguests that live in crooks and crannies all year around, such as the common house spider, while others make seasonal visits, like the zebra jumping spider. As far as pests go, spiders shouldn’t really be counted among them. In fact, they act as a natural pest controller and feast on the bodies of unsuspecting nasties such as flies, fleas and roaches. It’s estimated that a single spider eats around 2,000 insects every year.

COCKROACHES

Three different cockroaches can be found in your home: Oriental (), German () and brown-banded (). Each species is attracted to the dark and warm reaches of your home and the humidity created by houseplants. Like many pests, cockroaches scurry through holes in the walls and floors and then spread between homes.
