Petal power

SUNFLOWERS ARE SUCH A GLORIOUS SIGHT when they come in full bloom in the middle of summer. Although they are not the easiest of subjects to paint, the results are highly rewarding when you capture the cheerful yellow colour and the wild rhythm of the many sepals. I chose this particular flower head as I knew I would relish the challenge of the curling green sepals, which give the subject an architectural and playful twist.

When a subject has a dominant colour, as in this case yellow, it is always a good plan to use several versions of that colour
