DON’T LOSE YOUR TV CHANNELS

Seventeen years after the BBC started broadcasting its first high-definition (HD) shows, it’s now planning to make all channels HD. This means switching off the few remaining standard-definition (SD) channels on Freesat – the satellite equivalent of Freeview – and Sky. When it completes this by March 2024 older SD TV boxes will stop working (see box opposite for the Sky boxes affected). It doesn’t affect Freeview and YouView customers.

The BBC started the process in January by turning off local shows broadcast on BBC One and, while Sky customers should visit .
