BENTLEY CONTINENTAL GT COUPE (2003-2011)

Volkswagen’s purchase of Bentley in 1998 had more than a few traditionalists concerned. The history of German brands buying English automotive institutions didn’t have a flawless track record, but when the first product of the union emerged from Crewe in 2003, most enthusiasts were pleased by Belgian designer Dirk van Braeckel’s work. The coupe arrived first and that’s the model we are looking at here. It was the first Bentley to employ mass production techniques and was powered by a meaty 552bhp 6-litre W12 engine.

And that W12 engine really is the talking point. It’s effectively two VW VR6 motors joined together, and in Continental GT application it uses two KKK turbochargers to give it more power than the versions used in other VAG stablemates. Linked to a four-wheel drive
