Exploring Grenache: Walls’ dozen to try from around the world

1 Yangarra, High Sands Grenache, McLaren Vale, South Australia 2018 97

US$255 Solano Cellars A beautiful, harmonious nose, with notes of violets and lavender honey. Highly fragrant and full on the palate but also weightless, clearly very light extraction. Despite this, there’s great presence and depth. It’s still young; stylistically quite peerless, with a real tuning fork resonance on the finish. Taken from the highest section of Yangarra’s 1946 Grenache, planted on deep silica sand soils. Matured on lees in older, large French oak barrels and ceramic eggs for 11 months. Biodynamic. Drink 2023-2040 Alcohol 14.5%

2 Pášxa, River Rock Vineyard Grenache,96
