Capulin Volcano is not one of the Southwest’s major tourist attractions, partly due to its isolated location in the far northeast corner of New Mexico, well away from other popular destinations. The land hereabouts is a transition zone between the high plains of north Texas and western New Mexico, and the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. The region contains mostly arid prairie,
