YOUR TODDLER
Coughing is the body's way of protecting itself by keeping the airways clear. Most healthy children cough about 30 times a day. The airways of a child are small and narrow, while secretions may be thick and tenacious, so good, strong coughing is essential.
Children younger than 4 months shouldn't cough much though, so if they do, it's often significant. Once your child is older than 1, coughs are less alarming. In most cases, chances are your baby's cough is nothing more than a cold.
The three causes for coughing in babies are: infections, allergy or foreign objects.
