Once you visit the Little World of Whimsy, you’ll be hooked right away. On the website, you’ll find a full line-up of original amigurumi characters – often with free downloadable patterns – and a wealth of how-to features and round-ups. The creative powerhouse behind this ami’ treasure trove is Julia Chiang, a pro cellist, amigurumi designer and blogger who draws her inspiration from classical music, literature, nature and more.
“I’ve always had a passion for working with my hands to make beautiful items,” says Julia. “The first craft I fell in love with was origami. I was amazed at how a flat,I stumbled across some amigurumi creations online, I was similarly taken with the concept of being able to create a 3D doll out of yarn, even though I had never tried crocheting or knitting before.”
