One cylinder, one piston, one spark plug: it’s a simple combination that truly gets my engine revving when I start thinking about motorcycle adventure on a single-cylinder machine.
It takes me straight back to my early teens — 14 years of age to be exact — when I rode my trusty Honda XL100 solo from Morisset in the lower NSW Hunter Valley through the bush to Wiseman’s Ferry. It was a round trip of a couple of hundred kilometres and for a 14-year-old kid, it was a big deal and really set the course for my adult life when it comes to seeking adventure on a motorcycle. I would later ride a KTM690 from London to Sydney, so I’ve put my money where my mouth is when it comes to my commitment to single-cylinder bikes.
