I can’t think of another fish that feeds in so many different kinds of water. From clear shallow flats and rocky shorelines to reefs or sandy beaches, there is no type of water or wave conditions that striped bass can’t be found.

Stripers eat at any hour, but they are heavy nighttime feeders in warm weather. Unless you are very experienced and know the beach well, avoid locations with big surf. Start on a smooth beach that’s easy to walk. Flyfishing in the be more difficult. You want to be moving the fly as soon as you start retrieving. It’s better to make shorter, controlled casts so you feel the fly right away. A slower retrieve is usually more effective at night, but keep contact with the fly at all times. Concentrate on making straight casts. Line and fly control is the key to night fishing. Once you become comfortable fishing at night, it should feel just like fishing during the day.
