50 YEARS OF EVENTING

venting has been through a lot of changes since the first issue of was published 50 years ago in 1973. covered the sport’s gradual move from the classic format to short and reported on developments in safety, including the evolution of frangible pin technology, measuring equine heart health and advancements in helmet and body protector design. The magazine has seen Team USA’s changing of the guard throughout the decades and has celebrated their Olympic and competition successes—and agonized over the failures. But in spite of the changes, some things remained constant between the pages. Education has always, whether it’s geared toward horse care and management or riding and training. The first eventing training article appeared in the second issue, and insight from eventing experts and legends, along with rider position critiques and course analysis, have endured through the years.
