It always strikes me as curious that when I ask people where they feel most happy, calm and relaxed, they think of spaces immersed in nature. And yet, when we think of designing a home or almost anything within the built environment, it’s almost never reflective of these natural settings. So why is it that when studies repeatedly demonstrate that contact with nature is fundamental to supporting our physical and mental wellbeing, that it’s the last thing to be considered and the first thing to be value engineered out of the design process?
