“Lives of the Gods: Divinity in Maya Art”

MMERSION IS “in.” Whether it’s Van Gogh’s , Monet’s , or Gustav Klimt’s gilded worlds, viewers around the globe line up to enter great works of art, to be surrounded by them as they morph to the strains and rhythms of carefully orchestrated scores. Immersion is accomplished through virtual reality, holography, and digital projection onto walls and floors that are, in actuality, nothing less than giant screens. Visitors are meant to feel as if they are interacting with the artist’s imagination, that they are elements, even protagonists in the work. To a generation raised in a digital universe, I suppose immersive art exhibitions are at least equal
