am writing these lines in front of a landscape of minarets and more recent towers in Istanbul after a long journey after long flights. Time is a strange thing - flexible, surreal and a human construct in some ways. Scientists say we don't have much time to address changes resulting from rising temperatures. The oceans absorb much of that heat, but not without negative consequences for the marine environment Fortunately, however, humans are ingenious. Who would have thought you could unleash a school of sharks to map out a newly discovered seagrass meadow? (It's just one of the inspiring stories about this year's Ocean Awards winners, starting on page 66.) More ingenuity is on display in the interview about two brothers who built a business of floating restaurants and are finishing the restoration of the Gilded Age-era schooner (). She first raised her sails in 1885. When she finally sails again a few years from now, the contrast with a modern-day catamaran with built-in solar cells, such as the Sunreef 80 Eco on page 106, will make time feel very real indeed.
