TAKE A HIKE

The adventure kicks off with a 4x4 ride! The last few kilometres to Kranskloof base camp are only traversable in a 4x4, but if you don't have one, you can park at caretaker Richard Gininda's house and catch a lift in his Landy.

“I've seen eland, waterbuck, zebra, kudu, wildebeest, blesbok, impala and mountain reedbuck here,” Richard says as we drive.“Even caracals and leopards.”

Richard has lived and worked in the private Komati Gorge Wildlife Reserve since 1998. The 25 km² reserve is halfway between Machadodorp and Carolina, stretching from the Komati River to the Highveld
