FEATURE: EXOTIC FLOWERPECKERS
THE family of birds known as flowerpeckers consists of no fewer than 54 species. These diminutive short-tailed birds are found in the Australian and Oriental regions. The smallest members of the family are less than three inches in length. Closely related to the sunbirds, flowerpeckers generally haunt the tops of forest trees, but they also come nearer to the ground to visit flowering shrubs to gather their food. This consists of insects, and nectar and berries when in season.
