The bombers versus the scrapers

IN SEVERAL previous articles I have discussed the nesting activity of birds. In those, I touched on how some birds choose to dig burrows either in the ground or in river banks in which to lay their eggs and rear their young. Before their transition period from ground dwelling to becoming airborne occurred, nesting activity for birds took place on the ground, and when we look at “modern day” birds, it is interesting to see just how many species have still retained the ground-nesting behaviour. And before you say “well, ground-dwelling birds obviously would, wouldn't they”, let me clarify that this option, rather than build nests in trees. Equally, many species have chosen the option of digging nests in river banks.
