Swift has mostly been loyal to Fiat for its motorhome chassis, apart from dabbling with a few VWs many moons ago. Now, though, like many of its rivals, it has turned to Ford for the first time, both for its little pop-top Monza campervan and this new coachbuilt range, called Voyager (a name it's reviving over a decade after its last appearance).
The newcomer actually looks rather similar to Swift's (Ducatobased) Escape but undercuts even the entry-level Edge (also on Fiat). A twin bed layout in the Escape (once the budget line-up) is now £81,395, and even an (obviously entry-level) Edge is £71,990 with this type of floorplan. And yet Swift's debutante, in this 584 guise, costs a more modest £67,495. And, if you want an automatic, the gap gets wider – it's £2,995 to go clutchless with Fiat, just £1,795 on Ford.
So, you might expect the Voyager to have the aesthetic appeal of a mobile library and a standard kit list shorter than a politician's Partygate apology. Not so. Just look at it. You don't need to consult the brochure or the website to spot the alloy wheels, metallic paint or big overcab sunroof, and that's
