FOUNDER, ST. LOUIS LGBT HISTORY PROJECT

Long before Steven Louis Brawley founded the St. Louis LGBT History Project, he was a young man sitting at the front bar of Magnolia's. It was the early 1990s, and he found himself entranced by the stories of local drag icon Jimmy Walker, who performed as Bette Davis. While he found her big personality intimidating at first, the Rtwo settled into a friendly routine of sharing stories. ¶ “Friends kept telling me to record these sessions.
