ART AND THE ARTIST

Charles Church

HIS MAJESTY KING CHARLES III HAS long had a good eye for art and described his namesake, Charles Church, as “a remarkable artist”.

The then Prince of Wales said of Charles that “he has a unique sensitivity and profound understanding of his subject matter”. The subject matter is something dear to The King, and even more so to his mother, the late Queen Elizabeth II — horses.

Born in 1970, Charles Church began painting at the age of 15, and although he had never ridden, he became interested in racing. It was to be the subject of much of his commissioned work.
