30 for 30: The Luckiest Guy in the World

8/7c, ESPN

This four-part documentary about pro basketball Hall of Famer, two-time NCAA champion, twotime NBA champ Grateful Dead devotee Bill Walton (left, circa 1985) chronicles his legendary career on and off the court and how he remained true to himself, no matter the cost. Directed by Steve James (), it explores Walton’s personal challenges, like overcoming his stutter (“my greatest accomplishment and your worst nightmare”) and the breakdown of his body (it started with multiple orthopedic operations in high school), with optimism and humor. “I’m a look-forward kind of guy,” Walton said earlier this year. “But looking back, I try to learn from my experiences.”
