I collected my first autographs in 1951 as a 13-year-old visiting relatives in southern California. Uncles and aunts took cousins to an audience-reaction taping of an “Amos ’n Andy” TV show. Freeman Gosden and Charles Correll introduced the screening.
Later at the stage door, cousins and I collected the autographs of the black cast, including Amos (Alvin Childress),
