Oils under pressure

PRACTICAL OILS

The joy of completing a painting in a short time is one of the attractions for me when it comes to pleinair painting. I have a busy lifestyle and often put painting at the back of the queue of things to do. If that sounds familiar to you then perhaps this particular genre of painting is for you. The day I completed this demonstration painting is a perfect example of utilising a short time to complete a work. I had a two-and-a-half-hour window between dropping my son at nursery and picking him up again. Having decided to use this time for painting I packed a backpack the night before with everything I needed.

I’d previously chosen the location when walking into town on a shopping trip and made a mental note to return one day to paint the scene. I’ll often spot potential paintings in this wayreview later. With time being tight, it was helpful to know exactly where I was going to set up and paint.
