Belinda Bromilow ‘WE’RE LIKE FAMILY’
THE ACTRESS ADMITS SHE ADORES WORKING ALONGSIDE HER THE GREAT CO-STARS
You might recognise her from homegrown series Doctor Doctor or Packed to the Rafters, but Aussie actress Belinda Bromilow has been stepping into a more regal role of late. The 47-year-old, who is no stranger to playing quirky characters on the small screen, has been portraying Aunt Elizabeth in Stan’s satirical historical TV comedy The Great. “Aunt Elizabeth is the aunt of Peter [Nicholas Hoult] – the grandson of Peter the Great who was the Emperor of Russia,” Bromilow explains of her role.
The dramedy, which is very loosely inspired by the real lives of Catherine the Great and Peter III of Russia, is heading into its third season – with fans going crazy for the irreverent interpretation of the Russian ruler’s legacy. And Bromilow, whose husband Tony McNamara is the creator, writer and producer of the series, says the best is yet to come. Here, she chats with WHO about reuniting with her castmates, donning corsets, and which real-life royal she’d love to play next.
What is the greatest thing about working on The Great?
Working with the actors. They are all at the top of their game, so getting to do scenes with actors of such talent is an immense privilege and joy. And alongside that, they’re just lovely people. We’re like family. But then the script is the real jewel in the crown.
The costumes always look so divine on-screen, but are they actually fun to wear or pure torture?
