Nostalgia, desire, wonder: all have been used to describe the work of Jason Bige Burnett. And that didn’t change when he switched from clay to fabric. Anyone familiar with Burnett’s ceramic work might easily see that the textiles emerged from the same hand. You can change the material, but that doesn’t change the artist.
We clearly see Burnett’s curiosity at work, regardless of the material. “Curiosity is one of the permanent and certain characteristics of a vigorous mind” (, March 12, 1751). His is a vigorous mind and he explains, “Montana forces you to slow down. A city has its own energy and it can wear you out. In the quietness of Montana I can wear myself out with my own energy. It has filled me with whatever is next to come.” The evolution
