IT WAS more green-bin day than Green Day when the Government published a whopping 2,800 pages of energy policy documents in March, many of which were recycled and with precious little strategy to take the UK anywhere close to hitting its net-zero targets. Powering Up Britain was published by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero. Even the department name is a fudge, getting the net-zero excuses in early if (some might say when) renewable energy fails to keep the lights on.
Property, accounting for 25% of UK carbon emissions, plays a major role in all this. “If the Government is serious about achieving net zero by 2050 there must be more recognition ofenvironmental performance of a building over its full life cycle.”
