Cycling and music’s relationship has been a mixed bag. In 1978, Queen just wanted to “ride my bicycle, bicycle, bicycle”, then five years later Kraftwerk’s Tour de France synth number charted at 22. It was re-recorded in 2003 for the album Tour de France Soundtracks. Both songs were topped in January 2019 by Astana’s First-Ever Pro Cycling Rap where lyrics such as “I am Vino, behind me is Martino” left the cycling community awestruck. It was so bad it was good.

For the 3,000-plus cyclists in Bristol on Sunday 2nd April 2023, there was no bad. It was all good. And it was down to the Ace of Bass…
