THE PRO
NAME: April Alexander
CAMERA: Nikon Z 7II
April’s (@byaprilalexander) creative CV knows no bounds. She’s a commercial and fashion photographer, model, mother agent and brand content producer. It’s not surprising, then, that she’s been recognized by the ‘Big N’ as a Nikon Europe Creator. She caught the photography bug during a trip to Cape Town, but has been around cameras and studios for over a decade as a model/muse. Her experience in front of the camera allows her to operate with a unique perspective, something Lawrence will surely benefit from: www.aprilalexander.co.uk
THE APPRENTICE
NAME: Lawrence Butler Perks
CAMERA: Nikon Z 6II
Epsom-based project manager Lawrence (@photo_lbp), obviously knew mirrorless interchangeable-lens cameras were the future because his first camera was from the short-lived Nikon 1 system. He then moved onto a Nikon D3200, before biting the bullet and going full-frame with the Nikon Z 6II. His first serious brush with photography was operating a work camera, but during lockdown, this developed into a passion. His areas of interests are weddings, events and portraits, and with April’s help, he’s sure to upgrade his skill set.
London is a favourite destination for urban, outdoor portrait photographers, thanks to its melting pot of architectural styles. Nikon Europe Creator and natural-light aficionado April Alexander had been planning on treating her apprentice to a tour of her favourite hotspots. But early spring’s notoriously unpredictable weather had other ideas… at the last minute, the decision was admitted Lawrence, as he heaved a heavyduty C-stand up three flights of stairs, followed by April, her assistant for the day Sherion Mullings (@ shotbysherion), and team N-Photo, all laden with bits of studio equipment. “First lesson,” said the pro, “parking on site is essential.”
