CANARIES
MOST canary fanciers choose to ring their young birds mainly to meet exhibition requirements and also to be able to identify all birds genetically, in order to form a related stud.
There are three popular forms of rings to place on a canary's leg: closed metal, split metal and split plastic. Up to very recently I have used split plastic rings, but this year I have moved over to split metal ones for several reasons.
Closed metal rings
Closed rings can onlyearly. The only way to avoid this is by making repeat trips to the nest to catch each chick at the right time – thereby causing additional problems for the hen.
