ll eyes were it was placed on King Charles’ head during the coronation ceremony. Made for King Charles II in 1661, the intricate crown was resized to fit the monarch’s head. Weighing just over 2kg and made from a solid gold frame set with 444 gems, including rubies, amethysts and sapphires, the headpiece was only used for the moment of crowning. King Charles then changed to the Imperial State Crown.
