IT’S early in the morning but he’s already here, helping himself to a bowl of cereal from the buffet of the Joburg hotel where we’ve arranged to meet.

He likes getting up at the crack of dawn, Songezo Zibi says. “Early to bed, early to rise – that’s how you get things done.”

And the 47-year-old has plenty to do if he hopes to fulfil his dream of becoming the next president of South Africa.

The nation is weary of politicians beating drums filled with empty promises and wary of newbies who vow to bring change and fall short along the way.
