Q What is cellulose insulation?

We sort of know instinctively that paper is a good insulator but the idea of insulating our house with it would probably seem unusual to most of us. Cellulose insulation is essentially shredded paper and has been used to keep homes insulated since the 1950s in the US (and 1970s in the UK). It is arguably considered to be one of, if not the, most environmentally friendly insulation materials available. It is at least as good an insulator as mineral wool or all the natural insulators, so why have we not heard more about it?
