he new moon rose on 20 April and now is the perfect time to see ‘earthshine’. This occurs when sunlight reflects off the Earth’s surface on to the unlit portion of the moon. This twice-reflected light makes the crescent appear exceptionally bright, while the larger unlit portion glows with a somewhat eerie ashen hue.
