Her shirt embroidered with an FMCG company logo, Nokuthula’s violated body, neck marked with strangle imprints, was discovered in a veld by a passer-by heading the same route, not long after her murder.

Nokuthula was on her usual 5km to 7km course from home to the main taxi rank in Katlehong, heading to her place of employment. Just over two weeks ago, she made her last trip when she did not reach her employment destination.

Nokuthula belongs to the most economically vulnerable group in South Africa. Her tragic collision with death comes just two weeks prior to the release of bleak figures from Statistics SA on unemployment preceded by the release of crime stats by the South
