Diesel railbus appeal exceeds KESR’s target

VOLUNTEERS working on the Kent & East Sussex Railway’s (KESR) historic GWR single-unit diesel railbus No. 20 are celebrating two milestones.

First, former GWR AEC railcar No. W20 (RM November p78) has returned to the carriage & wagon shed at Tenterden, having had to leave the workshop temporarily at the end of January to enable winter maintenance to take place on the ‘Wealden Pullman’ set. Restoration is now continuing with installation of a new heating system.

The team is looking at ways to recoup the time lost to keep the schedule on track for the railcar’s restoration to be completed for February 2024.

Secondly, donations have significantly surpassed the ‘20 for 20’ appeal target to reach a current total of £58,000 – almost triple the original amount!
