Aperture & Shutter Priority modes

These two semi-automatic exposure modes let you set either the aperture or the shutter speed, with the camera controlling the other elements of the exposure. These modes are shortened to on the mode dial to ‘Av’ for Aperture value (which is Canon’s way of sayingwant creative control of the depth of field – or how much of a picture appears sharp. You can choose a large aperture to blur the background in a portrait, or use a small aperture to extend the depth of field. The camera will adjust the shutter speed (and the ISO, if it’s set to Auto) in line with any change you make.
